Mad In Lyon 3 EP by Ortella
DJ Steaw's Rutilance Recordings imprint returns late February with Ortella's Mad In Lyon 3 EP, comprising four original tracks from the French artist.
Ortella carved out his own unique brand of melodic house and techno with releases on DJ Deep’s Deeply Rooted House in 2008/9 and has since gone on to release a string of other material as Ortella via the Mad In Lyon imprint as well as a series under the same name for Rutilance where he returns to here for the third instalment.
Up first on the package is ‘Energy’ which as the name would suggest nods towards the dance floor via robust swinging rhythms, warm chord stabs and spiralling atmospherics throughout. ‘Squirt The House’ follows and lays focus on a more dubbed out aesthetic from Ortella with echoing dub chords, fluttering synth licks and lumpy sub bass tones meandering around a weighty drum foundation.
The latter half of the release opens with ‘Get It’, which edges towards the more atmospheric end of house with airy chords, subtle synth flourishes and stripped back percussion working in unison to create an understated groove-led contribution before ‘Wrong House’ showcases a more minimalistic production style from Ortella with poppy percussive shots and processed vocals running across its six and a half minute duration.
